Whenever the local market runs ground round or ground sirloin on sale I try and prepare some kind of ground steak recipe. This Salisbury Steak with Mushroom and Wine Sauce recipe is quick to prepare, has very little prep time, and is delicious. The flavors will change a little bit according to the type of wine you use and the brand of gravy. The cooking time may also very depending on the size of the ground steaks you form. The cooking time in this recipe is assuming you divide the meat into 4 patties; cooked medium rare. Just adjust the cooking time to your desired doneness. Ingredients
  • 1 pound ground sirloin or ground round
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 3/ 4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/ 4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 package of fresh portabella mushrooms (8 ounces sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons ruby port wine
  • 1 jar of beef gravy (12 ounces)
Instructions
  1. in a large bowl mix together the ground steak, garlic powder, and pepper. Divide into 4, and form 4 patties about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. In a large skillet on medium high heat brown the ground steaks on both sides. Remove the steaks from the skillet and set aside. Remove any excess fat.
  3. Melt the butter in the same skillet and add the mushrooms; cook for about 2 minutes, and then add the wine. Cook for one minute, stir in the gravy, and return the patties to the skillet.
  4. Cook over medium heat to desired doneness.
