Pizza was on the menu until I came across this 3 Meat Pizza Casserole Recipe. I didn’t feel like dealing with a crust, and this looked really good and it made a hit! This recipe has an excellent blend of flavors.
This is a simple recipe-but there is some prep time involved. Graduation is right around the corner, this would make a great dish for a graduation party. The recipe says to let it set for 5 minutes before serving.
Give this one a try you won’t regret it. Enjoy

3 Meat Pizza Casserole Recipe

  • 1 lb bow tie pasta
  • 1 lb mild pork sausage
  • 1 large onion, medium size chopped
  • 2 (26 ounces) jars spaghetti sauce (I used Bertolli’s Mushroom and Garlic)
  • 1 lb cubed cooked ham
  • 1/21 lb of sliced pepperoni
  • 3 (8 ounces) bags of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 6 tablespoons of grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped garlic
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano


  1. Cook pasta in boiling water until al dent é.
  2. Cook sausage, garlic powder and oregano with onions until the juices run clear.
  3. In a lightly greased 9x13x3 inch pan, pour a small amount of sauce to lightly coat bottom.
  4. Layer ingredients in the order listed below.
  5. st layer-1/3 of the pasta, 1/3 remaining sauce, 1 bag of mozzarella cheese, 2 Tablespoons parmesan cheese, sausage, and onions.
  6. And layer-1/2 of the remaining pasta, 1/2 remaining sauce, 1 bag of mozzarella cheese, 2 Tablespoons parmesan cheese, ham.
  7. rd layer-all remaining pasta, all remaining sauce, 1 bag of mozzarella cheese, 2 Tablespoons parmesan cheese, all the pepperoni(completely covering the entire top with pepperoni).
  8. Bake at 375°F for 40 minutes.
  9. Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
  10. Serves 6 – 8

    • I have not tried freezing this recipe, but everything in this recipe should freeze well- I have not had good luck freezing cooked pasta. If you try it, I would make sure the pasta is undercooked a little bit.

  2. I made this the other day for dinner and my family LOVED it!! I am totally adding this to the rotation on a regular basis. I subbed Bow Ties for Rotini, left out the ham, added a chopped bell pepper and mushrooms. Then mixed everything together before putting into the baking dish. It was so delicious, and my house smelled AMAZING! My 15 year old said it smelled just like a Pizza Parlor!! Thanks for the great recipe!

  3. I have been making this for years and it dose freeze well and is so simple and quick to fix. I actuallyuse mac & cheese for the crust. Make it like you would mac & cheese, add 1 beaten egg per box put on your toppings put in oven and then done.

  4. This looks like a super alternative to regular pizza! I see by other posters that there are variations to how you could make this, which I really like. I may just make it this week as something different. We do eat a lot pizza, so I have no doubt this will be well-received. Can’t wait to TASTE it!!

  5. I also made this a bit different since no one really cares for pepperoni, but that’s the beauty of this recipe, you can make it with toppings that your family likes. It’s was really very very good and happy I stumbled on your site. It really is not difficult to make, once you get into, you’re done and its in the oven before you know it.

  8. Any clue regarding how many servings this makes? It looks like it would serve about 8-12? I’m thinking about cutting the recipe in half for the 4 of us…or making 2 9×9 pans and freezing one.

  9. You can do pretty much the same with left over spaghetti as the crust, just put a little sauce in the bottom, pour in the spaghetti, then finish by layering with whatever ingredients you like, you can even do it in sections, for the picky eaters. Fantastic!

  12. I’ve made a similar dish to this – I didn’t use ham and I used rigatoni noodles (I think). My husband and 2 year old son ate it like it was their last meal. I will definitely be making this on a regular basis!

I made this for my daughter in laws birthday dinner last night and everyone loved it…I made a couple changes-my family does al dente nothing, so it took the pasta a little longer to cook but less time in the oven…I also couldn’t get all the pasta or pepperoni in the pan so I will use a larger pan next time…I layer the pepperoni where they over lapped each other just a touch and they didn’t curl and completely covered the dish…Everything else I left alone…I want to thank you for sharing, like I said everyone loved it and it will be one that I use again and again…

  14. So do you use a clove of garlic or garlic powder. The ingredients
    Says chopped garlic but in the first direction it says garlic powder.
    Im not the worlds beat chef and just wanted to make sure i get it

  15. This is so easy and a lot does go a long way and affordable. I can feed a teenage boy, teenage girl who can eat as much if not more than her brother , a grown man who can a lot, and myself and still have enough for 2 or 3 the next day. A lady in Walmart gave me this recipe in the meat dept as we discussed how expensive hamburger meat was now. She said ” I have the best recipe for u and save money!” She was so right! Very sweet lady! I wish I knew who that lady was!

  16. Also, you can use rigatoni noodles, season it either way, fresh or can garlic. U can mince some onion in the sausage . Make your own sauce, or jared sauce. U can’t really hurt this one if u stick to the main ingredients. I have made it several ways. It always is a huge success!

  18. Cooked this tonight and it was a big hit however; I could not fix all of it into a 9×13 pan. Next time I am using a size larger! This is an easy recipe to change up using your favorite pizza toppings and ingredients!

I make it all time usually after I make spagehtti I will have left over sauce, It’s just the 2 of us, I use the wide noodles, mozerella cheese and peperoni and candian bacon, in a 8×8 and it fits perfect in the mirowave. if it was just me I would add mushrooms and black olives maybe even green peppers, You can use whatever pizza toppings your family likes.

  20. I’ve made this several times already, and it’s definitely a favorite of my hubby and I. I leave out the onion and oregano, just because 1) I don’t like onion and 2) I never have oregano 🙂 lol. Instead of mild pork sausage, I always cook a roll of the Jimmy Dean’s Country Mild Sausage and add that instead. I used Prego “Meaty” Sauce. YUM! This is so good!

  22. We made this today. Had to alter slightly due to bad weather in the area didn’t have access to all ingredients. Replaced hamburg for the sausage and spam for the ham (yes you heard me right spam). It was an amazing meal!!! Very yummy. My daughter made it I just helped. Very simple yet yummy!!!

Finally made this tonight for supper,been planning to make it for a week or so now but kept forgeting to pick up certain ingrediants when shopping.It looked so yummy in the picture I didnt want to substitute anything for fear of messing it up. This was absolutely delicious. But now that I know how versatile this recipe is I will try it different ways . I dont think you could mess this up if you tried. This will be a new favorite in my house. I usually make familly members a lasagna & deliver it unbaked with the Chrismas gifts each year (usually around the 21st or 22nd of December). That way with all the rushing around at that time of the season they have a ready made meal to pop in the oven! This will replace the lasagna this year,way easier ! Thanks for the recipe.

  25. my family and I thought this was good. we will make it again. we are a family of 5. my kids are small. we didn’t even eat half of it for dinner. We will have it for leftovers tomorrow. This makes to much to fit into a 9 x 13 .

  26. This was delicious! I replaced all the meats with low sodium turkey products and it turned out great and I had plenty of left overs. I will definitely make this again.

  27. I agree that the 9×13 is too small. I should have gone with my instinct to split it into a large & a smaller dish (this would make enough for 2 decent sized dishes). I was also afraid it would boil over so I put a pan underneath. So far, so good. It’s been in for 20 minutes, but it looks like the pepperoni could end up burned if I leave it the full 20. I wish I had covered it for the first half.

  28. This was so easy to make and kid friendly too— next time I’ll let my 4 and 5 year old help layer so they feel extra special :). I had no problems with it fitting in my pan… It did not bubble over, and the pepperoni did not burn even in for the full duration. Next time, provided I have time and I’m not rushed, I’ll take the jar tomato sauce and simmer it with some garlic and onion just to give it some extra umph. I didn’t use parmesan, nor sausage since I’m not a fan, but I bet hamburger would be a great substitute. I just did a layer of pepperoni bottom and top with ham in the middle. Also my cans were sold in 24oz not 26oz and I definitely missed the extra 4 oz!! But I’m a sauce lover. I could drink it. If you were to divide the pan 3 ways vertically and horizontally, my kids and I ate 2 squares worth… This is a lot of food!!! It’s so going to the freezer for easy meals later 🙂 Thanks a ton for this recipe! So glad I found it when bored with the same ol same ol.

  29. Looks great, but where are all the veggies in this recipe?? Lol! I’d revamp it using 1/8 the amount of meat, and subbing in tomatoes, mushrooms, peppers, onions and black olives.

    • This is a large recipe so depending on your guests, and if you are serving anything else with it, 3-4 casseroles for 20 adults I think would be reasonable.
      We have big eaters here. When I serve this dish it feeds 4 with some left overs.

  30. I have been wanting to make this for a while and remembered to put all of the ingredients on my list today. Way to much for a 9×13 pan. I will need to get those disposable foil pans i think for the next time i make it. Didn’t use the ham, but used 2 different chunky sauces: ine with tomatoes in it and the other mushrooms.   31. I made this last night — without the pasta, and using homemade no-sugar-added tomato sauce, to conform with my medically-restricted diet. YUMMMMM! You have no idea how badly I’ve missed for the past seven years pizza and pasta and submarine sandwiches and all those other high-carb “delivery mechanisms” for otherwise-low-carb Italian flavors. The idea of a “casserole” without a base carb may sound odd to some, but for my household it’s a welcome concept which fills a real need (my husband gets his necessary carbs “on the side,” in this case via bakery-fresh garlic bread).

    I’d welcome anyone else’s suggestions for ultra-low-carb casseroles (absolutely no more than 10g carbs per serving, less than 5g preferred). Many thanks in advance!

  32. loved this recipe! we got 2 nights of dinner from this. this will not fit in a 9×13 pan. youll need a bigger pan. i used about a 13×18 pan and it was perfect. it was one of those aluminum disposable pans!


  34. made this for a dinner party, used my own sauce, turkey sausage and turkey pepperoni and veggie penne and it was a hit! Didn’t tell anyone it was turkey till after Everyone wanted receipe!

  35. My boyfriend and I made this the other night and it was fantastic. We made a few changes so here they are:
    1. Use a bigger dish for sure!
    2. Grease the dish with butter like she says and then lay out some butter garlic crescent rolls! (No need to pre cook before layering)
    3. We used ground turkey (but thats just because that’s what we prefer)
    4. Instead of using ham we turned that layer into a veggie layer with fresh mushrooms, black olives, and bell pepper!
    5. We also used turkey pepperoni’s (they taste just the same to us!)

  36. I made this today and boy was it good!!! I used canadian bacon, instead of ham and two different pasta sauces (garlic and herb and also mushroom). Will make it again soon!

  37. Just made this for dinner, and as soon as I told everyone it was ready they just dug in and in seconds it was almost gone

    Now all i would say is i would of had some bread sticks or even the kined with chesses inside would be a great side to this dish.

    The next time i make it i think ill make half a suppem and half normal. But this is a keeper.

  38. We love this recipe! !! I use ground beef, Canadian bacon, and pepperoni, with the bacon and provolone flavored sauce! Delish!!! Tonight I think I’m going to try a version with Alfredo sauce instead of red sauce, I can’t see that much of anything would mess this up!

  43. I make this all the time, but to make it taste more like pizza, replace one of the jars of spaghetti sauce with 2 cans of Pastorelli Pizza sauce. It has a much more pungent taste and tastes much more like Pizza pasta then.

Instead of pork sausage I used Italian sausage and replaced cubed ham (not my fave) with crumbles of bacon. I added olives and bell peppers. The result was CRAZY GOOD!   45. We use gluten-free pasta, ground beef, onions, mushrooms, and pepperoni. Sometimes I’ll add 1-1/2 cups cottage cheese to increase the protein. Also, it’s much tastier to shred your own cheese. Pre-shredded has a waxy taste to it.
