I had a lot of yard work to get done so I needed to free up some time. This slow cooker recipe from Taste of Home cookbook looked pretty good so I decided to give it a try. It requires only a few ingredients with almost no prep time.

Ingredients
  • 3 pounds’ chicken drumsticks
  • 1 can tomato sauce
  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 garlic cloves (sliced thin)
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3 tablespoons cold water
Instructions
  1. Place drumsticks in a slow cooker lightly sprayed with cooking spray.
  2. In a small bowl mix together the tomato sauce, soy sauce, brown sugar and garlic and pour the sauce mixture over the chicken. Cover and cook on low for 5-6 hours or until chicken juices run clear. (internal temp. of 185F)
  3. Remove the chicken to a serving platter and pour the juices into a small sauce pan.
  4. In a small glass mix together the cornstarch and water.
  5. Skim any fat from the surface of the sauce, bring the mixture to a boil, and then stir in the cornstarch mixture. Stir and cook until mixture thickens.
  6. Serve sauce with the chicken.

This Honey Barbecued Chicken is simple to put together and delicious. It only takes about 4 hours in the slow cooker with just a little prep time. There is a good chance you will have everything on hand to put this recipe together.

Ingredients
  • 4 – 6 bone in chicken thighs (skin removed)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion (sliced)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon liquid smoke
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes
Instructions
  1. • In a nonstick skillet over medium high heat, using the oil, cook chicken on both sides until nicely browned; arrange chicken on bottom of slow cooker. Arrange the sliced onion around the chicken thighs.
  2. • In a medium size bowl mix together the remaining ingredients.
  3. • Pour the barbecue mixture over the chicken, cover, and cook for 4 – 5 hours on low or until chicken is almost fall off bone tender.
  4. • Layer a boiler pan with aluminum foil. Place the chicken on the foil and spoon some additional barbecue over the top. Place chicken about 8 inches below the element and broil on high until chicken starts to brown.
  5. (Note: this recipe is very good even if you skip the broiler step)

Using the slow cooker made this recipe real simple to put together. There is a little prep time involved, but nowhere near as much as when you actually have to stuff the cabbage.

All the flavors are there, they are just taking on a different form, and because it is cooked in the slow cooker it frees up a lot of time to get some other things done.

Ingredients
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • ⅓ cup chopped onion
  • 4 cups chopped cabbage
  • 1 medium green pepper (coarsely chopped)
  • 1 cup uncooked instant rice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 can tomato paste (6 ounces)
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (14.5 ounces)
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons sugar – optional
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
  1. In a large skillet cook burger and onion until burger is no longer pink inside; drain if needed. Place the burger mixture in the bottom of the slow cooker and mix in the cabbage, green pepper, and rice.
  2. In a large bowl mix together the water and tomato paste, and the mix in the rest of the ingredients. Add the mixture to the slow cooker and mix until well combined.
  3. Cook on low for 4-5 hours or until rice and vegetables are tender.
  4. Serve hot.

This Slow Cooker Angel Chicken Recipe only requires a few ingredients with very little prep time. Outside of having to cook the pasta it is pretty much a set it, and forget it recipe.

  • 4 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • ¼ cup Tuscan House Italian dressing
  • ¼ cup dry white wine
  • 1 ½ pound boneless skinless chicken thighs (cut into bite size pieces)
  • 8 ounces angel hair pasta or thin spaghetti
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley (optional)
Instructions
  1. In a medium size bowl mix together the cheese, soup, dressing, and wine until thoroughly combined.
  2. Arrange chicken pieces in the bottom of the slow cooker and pour the soup mixture over the chicken.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours or on high for 2 to 3 hours or until chicken is done.
  4. Just before chicken is done cook pasta according to package directions; drain.
  5. Serve chicken and sauce over pasta, and garnish with parsley; if using.

Ingredients
  • 8 slices of bacon cut into ½ inch pieces
  • 2 medium onions (sliced)
  • ⅓ cup all- purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
  • 8 bone-in chicken thighs (skin and fat removed)
  • 4 cups egg noodles (uncooked)
  • 8 ounces whipped cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
  1. In a large skillet cook bacon until crispy. Remove bacon to a plate covered with toweling to drain; drain the skillet reserving about 2 tablespoons of fat in the skillet. Place the onions in the skillet and cook until onions are soft and start to brown. Whisk in the flour and pepper, mix in ½ the bacon and the broth and cook until mixture thickens.
  2. Arrange chicken thighs in the bottom of the slow cooker and pour the onion mixture over the top. Cook on low for 4 – 5 hours or 3 – 4 on high.
  3. Mix together the cream cheese, garlic powder, and milk until well blended.
  4. Cook egg noodles according to package directions; drain and spread the noodles on a serving platter. Arrange chicken thighs on top of the noodles and lightly cover with aluminum foil to keep warm.
  5. Mix the cream cheese mixture into the onion mixture in the slow cooker, stir until well combined and heated through.
  6. Pour cream cheese sauce over the chicken and noodles and then sprinkle with the remaining bacon.

Tender and delicious these Slow Cooker Tasty Pork Ribs are the perfect solution to free up some time if you have a busy day coming up. They take 7 – 8 hours to cook on low or 4 – 5 hours on high. The original recipe calls for bone in ribs but the local market had boneless on sale so I went that route. In short use whatever you have available.

  • 8 country style pork ribs
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup barbeque sauce
  • ¼ cup brown sugar (packed)
  • ¼ cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 garlic clove (minced)
  • 2 tablespoons dried onion
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon ground mustard
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon pepper
Instructions
  1. Mix together all the ingredients except for the ribs in the bottom of a slow cooker. Place the ribs in the slow cooker and roll in the sauce to coat.
  2. Cook on low 7-8 hours or on high 4-5 or until ribs are fork tender.
  3. Remove ribs to a serving platter and serve topped with the sauce. Can also serve sauce over rice or noodles.

They had chuck steak on sale at the local market so I decided to put this slow Cooker Chuck Steak with Mushrooms and Onion For Two on tonight’s super menu. This is a simple recipe that requires very little prep time, and the gravy is delicious server over mashed potatoes.

You can free up your day by cooking this recipe on low which takes it about 6-7 hours to cook, or if you want to speed things up a little bit 4-5 hours on high.

  • 1 medium onion (cut in half and sliced about ½ inch thick)
  • 8 ounces of fresh mushrooms (sliced thin)
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 ½ teaspoons brown sugar (packed)
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • ¼ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons instant tapioca
  • 2 chuck steaks (¾ to 1inch thick about 1 pound total)
  • salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
  1. In a large microwavable bowl mix together the onion, mushrooms, oil, sugar, garlic, and thyme. Microwave for 5 minutes or until vegetables or softened.
  2. Spray slow cooker with cooking spray. Place the onion mixture in the slow cooker and mix in the beef broth and soy sauce. Salt and pepper the steaks and work them into the onion mixture.
  3. Cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 4-5 or until steak is tender.
  4. Remove steaks and spoon off any excess fat from the gravy. Serve gravy over steaks and mashed potatoes.

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • 2 garlic cloves (crushed and minced)
  • ¼ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 8 ounces small red potatoes (skin on cut into about 1 inch pieces)
  • 2 carrots (cut into ½ inch pieces)
  • 1 heaping tablespoon instant tapioca
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 pound sirloin steak tips (cut into 1 ½ inch pieces)
  • ⅔ cup frozen peas (I forgot to put the peas in the dish when I prepared it, and it was still super good, so I will list the peas as optional)
Instructions
  1. Lightly spray the inside of the slow cooker with cooking spray.
  2. In a small bowl mix together the oil, tomato paste, garlic, and thyme. Microwave for about 1 minute stirring occasionally; pour the mixture into the slow cooker.
  3. Mix in the beef broth, potatoes, carrots, tapioca, soy sauce, ½ teaspoon salt, and ½ teaspoon pepper.
  4. Mix the meat into the mixture, cover, and cook on low for 6 – 7 hours or until meat is tender. (4 – 5 hours on high)
  5. Using a large spoon scoop any excess fat off the top. Add the peas and let sit for about 5 minutes for peas to get heated through.
  6. Serve hot.
