It amazes me how much the supermarket charges for Chili seasoning mix. Don’t pay the price, make your own for a fraction of the cost.
Cooler weather closed in on us here so the whole family was in the mood for chili. This recipe is on the mild side if you follow the directions. If you want to turn up the heat just add more cayenne pepper. This is a simple Crock Pot Chili recipe and makes a great supper on a cold day. Just store the extra seasoning for the next time you make Chili. Enjoy

  • Seasoning Mix
  • 4 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2½ teaspoons ground coriander
  • 2½ teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Ingredients for Chili
  • 1½ lbs ground beef
  • 1 medium onion- sliced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can diced tomatoes
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans kidney beans
  • 2 Tablespoons seasoning mix- or to taste
  1. Mix together seasoning mix.
  2. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place.
  3. In a skillet, brown the ground beef and drain.

  5. In Crock-Pot, add onion and 2 tablespoons of seasoning mix. add tomatoes, tomato sauce, and kidney beans.

When it is going to be a busy day and you have some time in the morning a slow cooker can be your best friend. Your family will love this Crock Pot slow cooker recipe. The steak is nice and tender with an excellent blend of flavors. The recipe calls for sirloin steak. I used top round in this recipe, because our local market had it on sale. I am sure any good quality steak would work fine. Prepare it- and forget it till later. You will love it.

  • 2 pounds beef sirloin, cut into 2 inch strips
  • garlic powder to taste
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cube beef bouillon
  • ¼ cup hot water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 2 large green bell peppers, sliced
  • 1 (14.5 ounce) can stewed tomatoes, with liquid
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 oz package of portabella mushrooms-sliced
  1. Sprinkle steak strips with garlic powder to taste.

  3. In a large skillet over medium high heat, heat the vegetable oil and brown the seasoned beef strips.
  4. Transfer to a slow cooker.
  5. Mix bouillon cube with hot water until dissolved, then mix in cornstarch until dissolved. Pour into the slow cooker with meat. Stir in onion, green peppers, stewed tomatoes, mushrooms, soy sauce, sugar, and salt.
