I had to go out of town again for the afternoon, so being short on time, I decided on another slow cooker recipe. This Slow Cooker Asian Style Round Steak Recipe reminded me a lot of Chop Suey so I decided to give it a try. There is not a lot of prep time with this recipe but you do have to have the time to pay attention at the end to finalize the recipe, by cooking the rice, adding the vegetables, and thickening the sauce which takes about an hour and a half. I really enjoyed this recipe; and because it is cooked in the slow cooker, the round steak is so tender it melts in your mouth.
The next time you’re in the mood for Asian food give this Slow Cooker Asian Style Round Steak Recipe a try. Enjoy
Ingredients
2 pounds top or bottom round steak
2 tablespoons canola oil (for browning)
1 medium onion (chopped)
3 celery ribs (sliced)
1/4 cup soy sauce
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 cloves garlic (thinly sliced)
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon pepper
2 medium green peppers (julienned or sliced lengthwise)
1 can tomato sauce (15 ounces)
1 can bean sprouts (14 ounces-drained)
1 can water chestnuts (8 ounces-drained)
1 can mushrooms (4 ounces-drained)
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 cup cold water
Hot cooked long grain white rice
Directions
1. Cube round stake into bite size pieces; using cooking oil in a large skillet brown the round steak pieces on all sides. Transfer the meat dripping along with the steak into the slow cooker.
2. Add the chopped onion and celery to the slow cooker and mix in the soy sauce, sugar, salt, pepper, ginger and garlic. Cook on low for 5-6 hours or until meat is render.
3. Then add the tomato sauce, green pepper, bean sprouts, water chestnuts and mushrooms. Cook on high for 1 hour.
4. Mix the cornstarch and water together until cornstarch is dissolved. Add to the meat mixture and cook for another 30 minutes or until thickened. (Cook the rice during this time period)
