I have seen frozen Fried Mushrooms in the store. Why you would buy them I don’t know. They just take a few minutes to prepare from fresh mushrooms. It doesn’t make much sense unless you are really pressed for time. If you don’t like Italian seasoning just substitute traditional breadcrumbs. This is such a great side dish it goes good with almost anything. I used white button mushrooms in this recipe but I am sure portabellas would be just as good, if not better. Enjoy

  • 10 ounces whole fresh mushrooms
  • 1 cup flour
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cups breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
  1. In a large bowl mix flour, baking powder and salt. Add water and mix until a smooth batter has formed. Dip mushrooms into the batter and coat evenly. Allow excess batter to drip off.

  3. Roll the mushrooms in breadcrumbs until coated thoroughly. Repeat until all mushrooms are coated.

  5. Heat deep fryer to 365 degrees. Deep fry mushrooms in batches until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.

  1. I’m a big fan of mushrooms, and fried mushrooms are a decadent treat! I haven’t had them for a long time, and yours look amazing. Wish I could sample a few right now!

  3. I absolutely agree with you, there is no reason to buy them ready! I always make these but slightly differently, I actually use flour-sparkling water and one egg for the batter!
