This Slow Cooker Hot Dogs and Beans recipe requires very little prep time and makes a great one dish meal your family will love.

Slow Cooker Hot Dogs and Beans

  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup molasses (do not use blackstrap)
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 6 slices bacon (cut into ½ inch pieces)
  • 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 garlic cloves (crushed and minced)
  • 1 can pinto beans (rinsed)
  • 1 can navy beans (rinsed)
  • 8 hot dogs (cut into ½ inch lengths)
  1. Place beans and hot dogs in the slow cooker.
  2. Cook bacon, onion, and garlic in a large skillet over medium high heat until onion starts to brown and place mixture in the slow cooker.
  3. In a sauce pan mix together the chicken broth, ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, mustard, vinegar, hot sauce, chili powder, salt, and cayenne pepper. Bring mixture to a boil and add the sauce mixture to the slow cooker; mix to combine.
  4. Slow cook on high for 4 hours or on low for 6.

This is just not a Hot Dog; only Chicago could create something like this. The combination, along with the All-Beef Hotdog is excellent. One item that seems real hard to come by in the ingredients is the sport peppers. That is probably why unless you order them, or live in the Chicago Area, they are not to be found in your local market. So unless you live in Chicago; Chicago-Style Hot Dogs are extremely hard to find unless you prepare them yourself. This Chicago-Style Hot Dog Recipe is a simple recipe with very little prep time.   • 1 all-beef hot dog
  • 1 poppy seed hot dog bun
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon sweet green pickle relish
  • 1 tablespoon chopped onion
  • 4 tomato wedges
  • 1 dill pickle spear
  • 2 sport peppers
  • 1 dash celery salt
  1. Bring a pot of water to a boil. Reduce heat to low, place hot dog in water, and cook 5 minutes or until done.
  2. Remove hot dog and set aside. Carefully place a steamer basket into the pot and steam the hot dog bun 2 minutes or until warm.
  3. Place hot dog in the steamed bun. Pile on the toppings in this order: yellow mustard, sweet green pickle relish, onion, tomato wedges, pickle spear, sport peppers, and celery salt. The tomatoes should be nestled between the hot dog and the top of the bun. Place the pickle between the hot dog and the bottom of the bun.
